The Board of Trustees at Derby County Community Trust are delighted to announce that Paul Newman is to become the Trust’s new Head of Community, and that Mike Evans is to take over as Chair of Trustees.

Paul has been an integral part of the Trust development over the past 22 years and replaces Simon Carnall, who is joining Derby County Football Club as Chief Operations Officer.  Paul, in his role as Community Manager, has been responsible for the day to day operations of the Trust. He said:

“I am excited and honoured to become the new Head of Community at a time of both challenge and opportunity in the voluntary sector. I will bring all the valuable experience gained over two decades of working at the Trust and in the sector to help it to continue providing the best support we can to the communities who need us.”

Mike comes to the Trust with a wealth of experience in the sector. He was CEO of the EFL Trust for 12 years, overseeing the national work of professional football club charitable organisations (CCOs). A qualified Executive Coach, he currently supports several CCOs currently around Board development, governance and organisational structure. He said:

“I am delighted to be offered the opportunity to Chair Derby County Community Trust.  Over my 15 years at EFL Trust, Derby County Community Trust was consistently the organisation that others looked to for inspiration and advice, twice winning the EFL’s prestigious Community Club of the Year award. I am looking forward to working with the rest of the Board and all of the staff, volunteers and partners of DCCT to continue to build on this outstanding work and ensure that the charity continues to support the people of Derby and Derbyshire in new and innovative ways.”

Mike will be joined on the Board by new trustees Richard Gerver, Dawn Spendlove and Dean Jackson. Nick Britten, interim Chair of Trustees, said:

“The appointments of Paul and Mike, along with the addition to the Board of Trustees of Richard, Dawn and Dean, opens a new and exciting chapter for the Trust and we are sure that all will bring their vast experience and knowledge, along with their enthusiasm, to shape and drive the organisation in the future.”
