Football and Education

Development Development

Derby County Community Trust’s Football and Education programme is a county wide programme providing full-time post 16 education to male and female learners across Derbyshire, working alongside our education partners to deliver excellence in our academic and football provision.

Learners will study at one of our five venues:

  • Buxton & Leek College (based at University of Derby)
  • Chesterfield College
  • Derby Moor Spencer Academy
  • Pride Park hub (DCCT offices and Pride Park Stadium)
  • Friesland School
  • Matlock Town Football Club (from September 2024)
  • Lees Brook Academy (from September 2024)

Through our partnerships with a variety of education providers across the county, this offers us the opportunity to offer learners the option to study A Levels as well as Level 3 and Level 2 sport qualifications as well as undertaking GCSE resits should a learner need to do so.

The full time education programme is complimented with a full time football offer with learners playing in one of our Derby County Community Trust teams, competing in the EFL’s CEFA League where they play weekly fixtures as well as training three times a week with our professional coaches.

Our coaches qualifications range from UEFA B, UEFA A and UEFA Pro Licence allowing us to offer the very best football coaching we can, working to a planned syllabus across specific topics relevant to the game. Each learner also receives three reviews a year on their football development using our state of the art tracking and monitoring tool, Commentary Box.

In addition to this, using our four Veo cameras, this allows us to film all of our games giving our learners footage that can be used for coaching purposes as well as creating individual video packages to send to academies and universities in the USA.

“The collaboration between our school and Derby County Community Trust, along with the opening of the school’s new 3G astro in June 2019, has seen the partnership is going from strength to strength with increased numbers and our first girls’ cohort. It is a truly unique part of our Sixth Form offer.”

Peter Monk, Headteacher, Friesland School
