Rams in kenya

Rams in Kenya is an annual trip to the schools in the slums of Nakuru, Kenya, which invites Derby County fans, Derby County Community Trust supporters or simply anyone with an interest to take on the trip of a lifetime and improve life for children in the project’s partner schools.

Since 2012, over 500 volunteers have taken on the adventure, supporting our partner schools and their pupils to flourish. Facilitated by African Adventures, the trip benefits the Derby County Community Trust and also the impoverished areas around Nakuru, in Kenya.

2025 Trip

Our 2025 Rams in Kenya trip will take place from 17th May - 1st June (two week option) or 24th May - 1st June (one week option). You can find further details around the trip and associated costs below.

We work in partner schools to improve sanitation, build new classrooms or facilities and increase safety measures. We also support teaching and physical activity within the schools.

Volunteers also get the opportunity to take part in the Rift Valley Adventure Day which is a visit to the Nakuru National Safari, Thompson Falls and the Equator. There is also the chance to visit the Menengai Crater, an elephant orphanage and the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi.

Every volunteer is tasked with fundraising to cover flights, transfers, accommodation and three meals per day, plus a contribution towards the Community Trust’s programmes at home and the Kenyan school projects.

There are also costs associated with receiving the correct travel vaccinations, which will allow you access to the country and if Covid testing measures are in place at this time then costs may be applicable for travel. Please see below for a breakdown of costs.

If you have any further questions please use the form below or contact our Community Manager and Trip Co-ordinator Paul Newman on 01332 416140 or at [email protected]

"It's special out there. I was given the opportunity for a funded placement for the Kenya trip and now I've been for the past six years. It's been life-changing, it's opened my eyes. The people out there haven't got much but they're still happy and they're proud. I came back a totally different person."
