On Saturday 21st March, Derby County Community Trust’s DS Active group were invited to the Derby v Birmingham fixture by the club to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day.

The day included complimentary tickets for the match, along with the fantastic opportunity to be flag bearers around the pitch as the players walked out for the game.

The main highlight came at half‑time, when the DS Active players took part in a friendly game on the Pride Park pitch as part of the half‑time show.

In addition, Will Marshall, one of our DS Active players, was invited to speak during the PA announcement to share more about the DS Active group with the fans in the ground.

After their appearance on the pitch, the players enjoyed watching the remainder of the game from the stands.

A DS Active participant’s parent shared, “Derby County Community Trust is a wonderful organisation and helps support so many different groups of people in so many diverse ways. Today was a day to be very proud of the whole group, players and parents and I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who organised and put this together.”

With similar views from the participant themsevles, “It was a fabulous day, and everyone should be very proud of themselves. The reaction of the crowd was amazing.”
