This World Alzheimer’s Day, we’re highlighting the importance of staying connected, sharing memories and enjoying time together through our Raminiscence programme.

World Alzheimer’s Day takes place on Monday 21st September, providing an opportunity to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, challenge the stigma surrounding them and highlight the support available to people affected by dementia.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia. It affects memory, thinking and behaviour and, as the condition progresses, can make everyday tasks increasingly difficult.

For people living with the condition, maintaining social connections and having opportunities to enjoy familiar activities and interests can remain an important part of everyday life.

That is where Raminiscence comes in. 

Run by Derby County Community Trust, Raminiscence is a programme designed for people living with dementia and their carers, as well as older Derby County fans, providing a welcoming space to come together, socialise, stay active and relive special club memories.

Based at Community Corner at Pride Park Stadium, the weekly programme gives participants the chance to enjoy a different activity each Monday morning.

The first Monday of the month is focused on Derby County memories, giving participants the opportunity to reminisce about their favourite moments, share stories and talk about the club.

The second Monday is a Walking Group, providing a chance to get some gentle exercise while spending time with others, while the third Monday is a Games Morning, offering a social session built around games and activities.

The fourth Monday is dedicated to chair-based exercise, helping participants stay active through gentle, accessible movement.

Running from 10am to 12pm each Monday, Raminiscence provides an opportunity to spend time with others in a familiar setting, with Derby County at the heart of the programme. 

For people living with dementia, football can hold onto many special memories. A favourite player, a memorable result, a visit to Pride Park or years spent following Derby County with family and friends can all provide opportunities to reminisce, share stories and start conversations.

Raminiscence gives participants a space to revisit those memories while enjoying time with others. Carers can also get involved and socialise with other people in similar circumstances.

The programme has been running at Pride Park Stadium since June 2026 and is open to people living with dementia and their carers.
