The October half-term kicked off with our Premier League Kicks participants taking a trip up to Liverpool for LFC Foundation’s annual Premier League Kicks Black History Month Tournament at Anfield Sports & Community Centre.

The event brings together young people from diverse backgrounds across the Premier League Charitable Fund (PLCF) Club Community Organisation network. Derby County Community Trust’s team was joined by teams representing Liverpool, Birmingham City, Everton and Stoke City. Together, participants and organisers took a collective stand against discrimination, prejudice, and racism in football and wider society.

Alongside the football action, Show Racism the Red Card delivered engaging educational workshops for all five teams, reinforcing the event’s key message of equality and inclusion.

Adding to the excitement, the young players were treated to a special guest appearance from Muhammad Waseem, a professional boxer from Quetta, Pakistan. Earlier this year, Waseem made history by becoming Pakistan’s first-ever professional boxer to win a WBA Gold World Title in his hometown of Quetta.

On the pitch, Derby put on a flurry of outstanding performances which culminated in them reaching the final. The group played hosts Liverpool for the trophy. The match ended goalless, meaning a penalty shootout was in store. After a brilliant save from the Derby County keeper, the Rams came out on top 3-2, securing the trophy for the second year in a row!

In addition to the on-pitch action, Show Racism the Red Card delivered inspiring educational workshops to all five teams, reinforcing the event’s key messages. Participants also had a surprise visit from Muhammad Waseem, a professional boxer from Quetta, Pakistan.
