Derby County Community Trust hosted the Premier League Primary Stars U11 Girls Cup at Mickleover Football Club last week.

Joined by 14 schools and 112 participants, lacing up their boots and playing at the home ground of Derby County Women.

Adding to the excitement, Lucy Jones, the women’s first-team goalkeeper, made an appearance to support the young players as they looked to showcase their abilities individually, while also working together as a team.  

The tournament had a fantastic amount of young talent with teams showcasing impressive skills, highlighting the positive spirit of the Premier League Primary Stars programme, funded by the Premier League, through the Premier League Foundation.

The participants demonstrated all four of the Premier League Values throughout the day, creating a fun environment to play in, as well as sharing Youth Voice to ensure that their thoughts and feelings are heard.

Lucy Jones’s visit was a highlight of the day; she spent time watching each game and interacting with the players.

“It’s so good to see these girls getting involved with the sport from such a young age,” Jones commented, highlighting the significance of early participation in sports. Lucy later helped present the trophy to the winning team, Landau Forte Academy Morehead. Before departing, she was able to take photographs signed many items of memorabilia.
