The Movement helps children and young people in Derby to lead happy, healthy and active lifestyles.
The Movement is a partnership between Derby County Community Trust and Derby City Council which helps young people be healthy and active. It is part of the Livewell service which supports people in Derby to lose weight, stop smoking, enjoy a healthy pregnancy and help their children maintain a healthy weight. It offers these programmes:
A child weight management service for children aged 5 to 17 years with a BMI of 85 or over, registered to a Derby city GP practice. A parent/carer must support their child through the 12-month programme, which offers fun activities, healthy eating workshops, one-to-one and group support. A friendly, supportive and confidential stop smoking service for young people aged 12 to 17 years. Young people can find out more at The Movement website here
An affordable gym and swim programme at Derby City Council leisure centres for young people aged 11 to 16 years. By joining The Movement for free, young people from Derby can use the gym (from age 12) or swim for just £1.10. Young people can download a join form at The Movement website here
The Movement offers young people ways to boost their five-a-day and eat more healthily through its dedicated Eat IT web page. It also partners with Change4Life link to to provide practical resources for families on the Live IT programme.
