Six Goals See Off Barnsley
Derby County recorded a 6-2 win over Barnsley, as joint Players of the Match, Matt, Jevon and Noah stood out in a strong team performance.
Derby started on the front foot with a couple of early efforts but failed to force the Barnsley ‘keeper into a save. With just 11 minutes on the clock Derby took the lead and five minutes later they doubled it. The rapid start continued as one of the Players of the Match Jevon fired in his third goal of the contest.
Derby almost added a fourth when they broke from a Barnsley corner but the effort was inches wide of the post. Derby did have a fourth a few minutes later through a Barnsley own goal. The efforts of the visiting keeper then kept the score down with a great save from a free-kick
Another Derby attack came after a great save from the ‘keeper and this time it nestled in the bottom corner to make it 5-0. The host's strong half continued as they went close for a sixth. A good ball into the back post was controlled before being fired just the wrong side of the post to keep the score down to five at the break.
The hosts started on the front foot in the second half and almost got a sixth but the effort was off the bar. The game then levelled out until the 66th minute as Derby struck the post via a deflected volley from the edge of the area. A few moments later a long solo run forward forced another save from the Barnsley ‘keeper.
Barnsley against the run of play had a goal back as a header back to the ‘keeper looped in from the Derby defender to make it 5-1. A few minutes later Barnsley added a second to further reduce the deficit.
The visitors continued to look for a way back into the contest but were unable to close the gap before Derby added a 6th to make the result certain with a few minutes left.
Elsewhere there was a 3-1 win away to Preston and a narrow lose to Everton at home.
