Derby County’s Sensory Room to Reopen for the 2021/22 Season

After a year of games behind-closed-doors, it’s been fantastic to welcome back fans to Pride Park Stadium, and Derby County Community Trust are thrilled to announce that their Sensory Room will be back in action for the season.

The Sensory Room is based in one of the boxes in the North West Corner of the ground, and allows participants with additional needs to access the matchday experience which may otherwise be unattainable for them.

The space provides opportunity for children and young people living with a range of disabilities, but most notably supports those with Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome to enjoy a live game in a relaxed and calm environment.

Stuart Asquith, who oversees Disability provision at the Trust, said:

“We are thrilled to have the Sensory Room back in action for the 2021/22 season. It was so popular before games had to go behind closed doors that we can’t wait to continue to offer out the opportunity to participants who could really benefit from it, and the experience it provides for the whole family.

“It’s not just about those who have a disability, but also their siblings and parents. It provides the chance for them to attend a game which may usually be out of the question, and ensures that everybody is able to access watching Derby County play at Pride Park Stadium.”

Past users of the facility have added their praise, with one parent saying:

“His enthusiasm to watch a Derby game had been mounting for a few months but we had no idea how he'd manage with a game, or even if he'd make half time.

“He surpassed all our expectations and sat through the whole match. He loved relaxing in the Sensory Room before and during half time and he happily went back out to watch the second half afterwards. The staff completely put his mind at ease.”

Derby County Community Trust is inviting expressions of interest from those who could benefit from use of the Sensory Room. Please follow the link below.

Please note, spaces for the season are limited as only bookings of one family (maximum four attendees) can be accepted. Priority will be given to new users. The Sensory Room is free of charge but any kind donations will be accepted by Derby County Community Trust towards its upkeep and their range of programmes.
