Rammie’s ‘Daily Mile’ TM Challenge

Inspired by and developed in association with The Daily Mile Foundation, Rammie’s ‘Daily Mile’ ™ Challenge has a simple aim – to help children get fit by running or walk/jogging for 15 minutes a day in school or nursery. “The Daily Mile”™ initiative is the brain child of former headteacher Elaine Wyllie, who encouraged her children to run around the school field for 15 minutes every day in response to a provocation by a school volunteer that they weren’t fit. After 4 weeks, the results were startling. While many children initially struggled to run, within four weeks almost everyone averaged a mile or more in distance and, just as importantly, the children loved it!

In recent years The Daily Mile has been successfully rolled out across the UK – and beyond! In Derby, many schools have also begun to introduce The Daily Mile ™.

At the Derby County Community Trust we are keen to increase participation across primary schools with Rammie’s ‘Daily Mile’ ™ Challenge. Even children who are reluctant to take part in PE or Sport participate happily in The Daily Mile. It is a profoundly simple but effective concept which any primary school can implement. Its impact can improve not only the children’s fitness but also their concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general wellbeing.
