De Sart and Forsyth Visit Premier League Kicks Session

Thursday 26th January saw Derby County’s Julien De Sart and Craig Forsyth make a visit to a Premier League Kicks session at Normanton Park, hosted by the Derby County Community Trust.

The session, which is joint funded by the Premier League and Sport England, looks to engage youngsters in hard to reach areas with constructive activities including a wide range of sports, coaching and education.

The weekly Normanton Park session saw the players getting involved in one of the Community Trust’s more popular PL Kicks football sessions with over 30 young people in attendance.

From the offset both got involved, spending plenty of time engaging with the young participants and taking part in activities.

Due to injury, Forsyth couldn’t get fully involved in the activities however was always on hand to help participants with their skills and answer questions from participants, many of whom were big Derby supporters.

In what was his first community appearance since arriving at Derby, Julien De Sart spent the hour practicing skills, taking part in matches and even following some of the participants on Instagram!

Following the appearance, Forsyth said:

“Its good to get out and see what the community do. Looking at the session tonight it’s a great turn out, there’s over 30 kids here.

“Its good to see that as players we can come along and encourage more people to participate and get along, we hope it helps.”

Teammate De Sart added:

“It’s my first community appearance for the club and it’s good to see the kids out playing on this kind of pitch, I was in a similar position when I was a kid in Belgium.

“It’s a good football session, it’s important to help the kids, keep them off the streets and support them out in the community. As a kid I used to play on this kind of pitch, this is a good start for anyone looking to get involved in football.”

Premier League Kicks sessions take place in different venues every week. All session are free of charge and involve football, multi-sport, street dance and youth clubs.
