On Thursday 8th and Friday 9th March over 1,500 young dancers from Derby’s primary schools took part in the biggest annual schools’ event in Derbyshire, the Celebration of Dance.

The Celebration of Dance is organised by Derby City School Sport Partnership annually and returned to the Riverside Centre, Pride Park last week with an event theme of ‘Beach Party’ It is the flagship annual event for the Derby City SSP with hundreds of dancers from around 60 local groups performing throughout the two-day event. Dancers were from schools all across the city, from nursery age to Key Stage 2, showcasing dance styles from street dance to ballet, bhangra to contemporary.

The schools performed in four sessions throughout the two-day festival providing a diverse range of performances in different styles and from a variety of ages.

Liam Drake, School Sport Officer for Derby City SSP, said, “the Celebration of Dance is a fantastic event every year, with 2018 proving no exception.

“There were over 60 performances over the two days, showcasing the diverse talents of children we work with over almost all of Derby’s primary schools. Everyone who took part was a credit to their school and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event.”
